Hyundai Motor Co.’s racing fleet of i30 N TCR will challenge at the upcoming ‘ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hours,’ one of the world’s most excruciating races.

The Korean automaker said Monday that a pair of i30 N TCRs, its high-performance car specially designed for circuit racing has won a qualification on Sunday in Germany to race at the ‘ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hours’ to be held across May 12-13.

The i30 N TCR is the Korean automaker’s first car designed for circuit racing. It is powered by a two-liter turbocharged engine connected to a six-speed sequential, paddle-shift gearbox, and fitted with a 100-liter fuel tank.

The 24-hour annual touring race and endurance event held since 1970 involves a lap length of 25-kilometer and 73 corners. Dubbed as “Green Hell,” participation itself is a challenge.

In last year’s race, only 109 out of 160 contestants passed the finish line.

Earlier this month, i30 N TCR won the opening race at the ‘2018 World Touring Car Cup’ held in Morocco after beating 25 rivals.

Hyundai Motor employs the data from racing to upgrade its sports cars.

The company in March set up High-Performance Vehicle and Motorsport Division responsible for managing all its business activities related to high-performance auto business and motorsports.
