South Koreans are increasingly turning to overseas amid worsening job market at home, but only two out of 10 succeeded in landing a job aboard, according to local job portal Incruit.

The company analyzed statistics of Human Resources Development Service of Korea and found that just 22.3 percent, or 5,118 out of 22,997 jobseekers, got hired in foreign countries last year. The number nevertheless tripled from 1,679 in 2014.

The lion’s share, or 1,427 Korean nationals, landed a job in Japan, where job openings outnumber jobseekers, followed by 1,079 in the U.S., 505 in Singapore, 385 in Australia, 385 in Vietnam, 268 in China and 123 in Indonesia.

About 66.8 percent or 3,419 people got office or service jobs out of the country, while 814 landed jobs in IT sector, 177 in machinery and metal industry and 101 in construction and civil engineering.
