The PyeongChang Winter Olympics came to a close on Sunday with an exceptional Olympics record - the biggest turnout for a winter event with 2,920 athletes from 92 countries - and best-ever performance for a host country in winter sports, finishing in seventh place.

As in the opening, the closing spectacle ended with the two Koreas marching into the stadium side by side under a unified flag, receiving a standing ovation from the South Korean president and first lady, Ivanka Trump, the first daughter of the United States, and Kim Yong-chol, former top military spy chief and top North Korean official in charge of inter-Korean affairs.

The Olympic flag was lowered and handed over to the next host city Beijing.
