The 73rd international convention of Y’s Men International, an international group of volunteers in support of YMCA, will kick off early August this year in Yeosu with more than 3,000 participants from 73 countries across the world.
According to the 73rd Y’s Men International Convention Yeosu Korea organizer, the convention will be held at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province in Korea, from August 9 to 12.
Under the slogan of “Yes, We Can Change!” 3,200 participants from 73 countries including the U.S., Canada, Denmark and India will visit the southern city of Korea to join the event, raising expectations that it could help stimulate consumption and create jobs in the coastal city.
Additional events also will be held before and during the convention including the 17th International Youth Convocation running on August 6-12.
“We’ll use the convention as an opportunity to develop the city’s infrastructure for tourism,” said an official at the Yeosu city office.
Y’s Men International is an international service organization founded in 1922 with a slogan “to acknowledge the duty that accompanies every right.” The club members do volunteer works for underdeveloped countries like Korea’s Green Doctors that send medical teams to poor countries and regions. Its biennial festival Y’s Men International Convention was held twice in Korea - in Seoul in 1982 and in Busan in 2006.
