GS Retail Co. that runs one of Korea’s largest convenience store chains GS25 has teamed up with Japan’s top coffee company UCC as part of efforts to strengthen its private label product lineup.
The Korean retailer said Thursday that it launched a new canned coffee product under its private label ‘You Us’ with the help of UCC. It is the first time for the Japanese coffee company, which developed the world`s first canned coffee beverage, to introduce a coffee product under private label in Korea, according to GS Retail.
GS Retail has put efforts on beefing up its private label products to win against rivals. Recently, it worked together with Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. to release new canned juice drinks.
Private label products comprised 36.7 percent of GS25 convenience stores’ total sales, excluding liquor and tobacco, as of the end of last year, according to the company.
“Private label product is one of GS25’s key strategies to stand above the others and the company plans to keep expanding private label product lineups,” said a GS Retail official.
