South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group and China’s Baidu entered into a nonbinding strategic alliance in Internet of Vehicles (IoV) on Tuesday to further strengthen their cooperation in next-generation connected car technologies.

The two have maintained partnership in the development of vehicle connectivity and autonomous driving since 2014.

The latest MOU between the world’s fifth-largest auto-making group and the leading Chinese language Internet search provider aims to accelerate the development of disruptive innovations in vehicle connectivity and bring new value to customers, said a senior official at Hyundai Motor Group, focusing on four areas: connected car service, voice recognition, artificial intelligence (AI) robot and Internet of Things (IoT).

As a first step on the partnership’s roadmap, the two will co-develop a connected car service that provides a wide range of in-car content based on maps, big data, AI and portal services.

Hyundai and Baidu will also work together to develop an in-car AI robot that helps control the vehicle though human language communications with the driver. This service dubbed Xiaodu was first released at the Baidu Create 2018 AI developer conference earlier this month.
