South Korea’s largest steel maker Posco CEO Kwon Oh-joon trying to cut out a new image for the traditional steelmaker through convergence of smart technology and new materials has joined a handful of IT tycoons in the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas running till Friday.
Posco said on Monday its chief executive attended the world’s largest consumer technology fair for the first time to explore smart applications in the group’s line of traditional industries of steelmaking, construction, and energy.
Kwon who has been accelerating smartization in steel mills hopes to get inspiration for new growth engines especially in lithium business to ride on the mobility transition to electric vehicles.
The fact that smart city and home is one of this year’s CES features also would allow Kwon to seek business opportunities for Posco Engineering & Construction that has been active in applying Internet of Things technology in home and civil engineering.
