Shinsegae Food’s halal-certified Korean instant noodles.
Shinsegae Food Inc., catering unit of South Korea’s leading retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, is ready to test Muslim appetite upon receiving Halal certification for its new instant noodles developed in partnership with a Malaysian producer, the company said on Monday.
Shinsegae Food has teamed up with Malaysia’s Mamee Double-Decker last year to expand in the Southeast Asian market. Under the partnership, Shinsegae Food developed two sauces for each instant noodle product and successfully earned the Halal certification in Malaysia.
The new products will hit the shelves of Malaysia at the end of this month after promotional events at 260 grocery stores across the country, according to the company.
Foods and products must be produced, slaughtered, handled and processed under strict Islamic law and obtain a Halal certification to be sold to the public. The maker’s red pepper paste sauce also received a certification in Korea from the Korea Muslim Federation.
“We’ll make more products using Halal-certified sauces to appeal to Muslim population in Southeast Asia,” said an official at Shinsegae Food.
