Hyundai Motor Co. said on Wednesday it will apply Cisco’s network system to its vehicles to bring in-vehicle networking to a new level.
During the CES show in Las Vegas, Hyundai Motor and Cisco revealed a new technology roadmap that will enable next-generation connected car technology and timeline for commercial deployment of hyper-connected production vehicles slated for 2019.
The duo has been in cooperation for the joint technology development project since last year.
The automotive and IT collaboration is focusing on technology solutions for in-vehicle data demands with Ethernet communications, which boast processing speeds of up to 1Gbps, moving away from restrictive CAN (Controller Area Network) systems.
Ethernet-based software also supports integrated data control, enabling flexible expansion of connections with security to handle large data sets from various components in the vehicle simultaneously.
The two also plan to apply QoS (Quality of Service) technology that can manage data traffic in order to offer better end-user experiences.
