South Korea’s internet giant Naver Corp. will open an artificial intelligence research center in Hong Kong in partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST), one of Asia’s most prestigious universities.

Naver said on Wednesday it would establish an AI research center dubbed NAVER-HKUST AI Lab at the university campus in Hong Kong on April 12. The center also will be the company`s first research base in the Greater China focusing on AI technologies.

Currently, it has research centers in Korea, Japan and France. The internet has been on outreach campaign since last year to broaden AI research and applications. Last summer it acquired Xerox Research Centre Europe in France.

Meanwhile, Japanese media reported that Line Corp., its messaging unit that went public in Tokyo, signed a partnership deal with Japan’s Nomura Holdings Inc. to set up an AI-powered securities platform or entity in Japan by the end of May.
