South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. has announced on Tuesday that it will release the X Venture smartphone tailored for outdoor usage in North America on Friday.
LG X Venture smartphone is designed for heavy-duty outdoor usage and the phone has passed 14 U.S. military-standards testing including drop and extreme temperature tests, the company said. Its durability matches that of its latest flagship LG G6 series smartphones.
The new phone comes with a 5.2-inch shatter-resistant screen and can be submerged in 1.5 meter-deep water for up to 30 minutes without risking damage. It is topped up with a 120-degree front-end camera and a special mobile application providing information like atmospheric pressure and weather reports needed for outdoor activities as well as a “Glove Mode” feature allowing its user to control the smartphone without taking off gloves while playing sports such as golf. Also, its 4,100 milliamp-hours (mAh) large-cap battery can be charged up to 50 percent within 48 minutes.
The electronics maker will roll out the new phone in Latin America, Middle East, and Africa following its launch in North America, but has no plan to release it in Korea for now.
