South Korea’s top mobile game developer Netmarble Games Corp. will launch a new mobile strategy game based on ‘Star Wars: Force Arena’ in 2017 in 154 countries, the company said during a press conference held in Seoul on Wednesday.
The game company and Lucasfilm, the maker of Star Wars, have collaborated to work on the first Star Wars IP game available for mobile devices.
In the upcoming Star Wars: Force Arena, players can select their favorite characters in the movie including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia or Darth Vader. The game also lets players battle one another in either one-on-one individual tournaments or in two-on-two team tournaments that last three to four minutes each. There are more than 60 characters all designed to realistically represent the actual actors who starred in the Star Wars series in the game with the original soundtrack of the movie.
The company has gained preliminary approval from the Korea Exchange on its plan to go public on the main bourse in the first half next year. Last week, Netmarble announced that it was buying Kabam, Inc.’s Vancouver Studio which is accountable for most of Kabam’s revenues with the blockbuster game “Marvel: Contest of Champions.”
